Hope fulfilled

Love comes to those who still hope even though they’ve been disappointed, to those who still believe even though they’ve been betrayed, to those who still love even thought they’ve been hurt before.

I do believe God puts us in the right place at the right time. All we need to do is be open and let God lead us.

Sacrament of summer

Blessed are you, sacrament of summer,

nature’s green season, sweet echo of spring.

You speak to us in living color as you renew the earth

with symbols of life for our bodies and souls.

Blessed are you, summer,

season of roots that reach for water.

Even through the cracks in the sidewalk

the song of your seed can be heard.

Blessed are you, summer,

season rooted in reality.

Even as the perspiration collects on our brow,

we experience your earthly joy.

Blessed are you, summer,

with your firefly evenings

you minister to the child in us.

You feed our hunger for beauty.

Inner fire

Summer is the season of light. Generous amounts of sunshine fall from the heavens. That touch of fire invites all growing things to leap into fullness. The steady flame of the sun ignites a passion in the land, and everywhere we are able to behold the dancing flame of life. As you witness this exuberant and fruitful unfolding in the earth, you are encouraged to turn your gaze to your inner life. Call down the sacred fire from the heavens to greet the fire in your soul.

Summer prayer

The elements of creation offer excellent material for summer prayer. Go outside and look around. What colors and sounds of life do you see? Use the growing season outside to help you pray with the growing season inside yourself.

In the garden

In the garden I experience the restorative powers of nature. The garden becomes a sanctuary of repose and promise, a graced place that allows my body and spirit room to breathe freshness. In this restorative place hope feeds my discouragement. Faith feeds my doubt. Here in the garden I am reminded of my communion with all that lives.

Planting the seed

O dormant seed within me,

I believe in your potential.

I will open the soil of my heart for you.

I will warm you with my patience and trust

I will water you with droplets of faith, hope, and love.
